for the record, i don't think a person should be able to use "assault weapons" or "machine guns" or "rocket launchers".
i do think guns should be allowed.
but certainly not everyone is "qualified" to use a firearm.. even if you legally, rightfully can have a weapon, it doesn't mean that a "kook" wouldn't steal it and use it in a nefarious way.. i am convinced that you could take licenses away from drinkers and they still could get behind the wheel and wreak havoc.. you could ban switchblades and gun silencers and people will still find a way to quickly slice you up or muffle a sound.. you could ban or try to curtail cough medicines and people will still find a way to get high.. we cannot, government cannot---control what people will do.
Jwoods: "I thought he used two semi-automatic pistols to do the shooting and left the rifle in his car."
No, he used the Bushmaster. Up to 11 bullets in every body.
this is a melancholy day for me.
over the past few years i have been studying american politics and have enjoyed learning perspectives from different ideologies.
i personally lean towards conservative values when it comes to creating legislature, however i am socially liberal.
@OC: And do you think Republicans will vote for those things that you want (and deserve)?
i lost one, and i am saddened by it.
i may disagree with friends over politics and/or religion, but the only reason i would cut off a friend is if they betrayed me.
anyone else lost friends or cut off friends because of politics or religion?.
BOTR: "For some reason, not yet clear, Romney truly believed he would win."
I thought that was strange, too. Here's a link that explains it pretty well.

"CBS reports that the campaign was unprepared for this in part because it had ignored polling that showed the races favoring Obama. Instead, it turned to its own internal "unskewed" polls, which it believed more accurately reflected the situation on the ground. They didn't."
They were living in a delusional FOX news kinda world.

Friends - zero. Acquaintances = one.
I have laughed off or ignored all of this guy's ridiculous political posts for years, but the day after the election, he posted something about how only Republicans work and they support 50% of the country and I found it so offensive that I quietly unfriended him. I work too hard to have to read that bullshit, especially after I've dragged my tired ass out of bed to go support my family.
there are a very small number of movies that i can watch more than once.
most get old after the first viewing.. there are very few movies i can watch over and again.. i love having a six pack of tall boys and watching "apocolypse now".. i love watching "tommy, the movie" on the rare occation that i have a doobie.. what movie would yoou reccommend as a "must own"or "must appreciate"?.
any opinions welcome.. .
These aren't movies I've intentionally watched over and over again, but if I'm switching channels and they're on and even though I know what's going to happen next, I can't switch away.
Galaxy Quest
In the Line of Fire
Panic Room
Moulin Rouge
Sound of Music
C.H.U.D. (lol, but true)
you asked for a topic on this , and here it is.. .
i ask ladylee to please comment on this subject.. .
when we choose to lead our lives according to what we consider is 'the right thing to do', that could be a good thing.
@elderelite: Well said
@tec: You wrote a book? I'd like to hear about it. If you've already talked about it on the board and don't want to again, please pm me.
To the OP: I think I prefer the term "taken for granted" to doormat. It's less noun-y and doesn't conjure images of feet, mud and bad holiday graphics. I've absolutely been taken for granted by certain people in my life, but instead of throwing a pity party, I stood up for myself and changed my situation.
Thank you, beks, for providing the link that was missing from the OP.
Thank you, Glander, for posting quotes from a 1990 California election for Prop 187. Relevance FTW!
why, he even has gone to some meetings at their kingdom hall!
someone calls with a large wedding tent that they would like to donate and set up in the kingdom hall parking lot for the public memorial on friday.
i was amazed how people who came that didnt even know whitney, but simply felt a need to be here and comfort the family.
Some very acute observations on this thread. It's so obvious that people are taking literature and starting bible studies because they feel terrible about what happened to Whitney.
Here's something I've been wondering about: if Holt hadn't murdered Whitney, but "only" sexually assaulted her, do you think she'd be in trouble with the elders for not screaming and trying to get away at the gas station?
i was always curious about what they had to say.
(i guess i was an apostate in the making)..
Why, thank you. Have you heard of them? Fred and Kate, I mean.
I'm also related to the Gregersons somehow, by marriage and multiple times removed, I'm sure. That shite was also a very traumatic time of my childhood, though I didn't completely understand it at the time.
